She Raps

Rappeuses en Liberté

She Raps is the first international incubator for the emergence and professionalization of female rappers, supported by the European Union’s Creative Europe program!

28 female rappers, living in France, Belgium, Portugal and the Balkan region took part in the training and finals. There are now 10 winners who will participate in the rest of the program.

While rap music is the most-listened-to music genre, especially among young people, it is mainly represented by men.
By relying on a network of professional, institutional and media partners, all highly committed, She Raps will allow young European artists to benefit from the tools, the music network and media coverage that are necessera to accelerate their careers.

To prepare She Raps, a preliminary study entitled « Profiles, practices and aspirations of female rappers. » was coordinated and written by Keivan Djavadzadeh – lecturer in information and communication sciences at the University of Paris 8, and member of the Center for Studies on Media, Technologies and Internationalization (CEMTI) – and Lisa Weill as co-editor. This study sheds light on the specificities and challenges encountered by women artists in the rap industry. This work constituted a solid basis for defining the needs of the participants and guiding the program’s training in this direction.
